MI-GSO | PCUBED Supports Formula Student
It was a big weekend for our University of Hertfordshire friends in the Formula Student team. Formula Student is an international competition where undergraduate students compete to design, build and test a racing car. The MI-GSO | PCUBED UK team stopped by to witness their race car testing at Silverstone and helped them prep for their business presentation. The team were full of praise of MI-GSO | PCUBED’s support.
AT MI-GSO | PCUBED, we’re committed to supporting the next generation of project managers. Over the last 10 years, we’ve helped out at the University of Hertfordshire’s Engineering School. Support included everything from polishing their business presentations, to cutting waste from their processes with lean project management.
The University of Hertfordshire’s engineering department has been buzzing with activity over the last couple of weeks as the team prepares to present their work. The culmination of this year’s program is the UK race at Silverstone from the 18th July. This year we are excited to participate in the race itself where we will help judge teams in business, cost & design.
Let’s take a quick look back at a couple steps along the way.
The Vehicle Unveiling
It all started in June with the official unveiling of the team’s car. We were invited to the students’ Hatfield campus to see it in all its glory.
Making the Business Case
Part of the judging criteria for the competition is the ‘Business Presentation’ where Formula Students must present the economic viability of their product. In preparation for their event, we welcomed them in our London offices to help with the business presentation part. This also offered an opportunity to practice and develop their communication skills, as well as helping them to refine their competitive edge.
Last, and perhaps most importantly were the dynamic tests. This is where the car was put through its paces in a series of tests designed to measure the performance of the vehicle.
MI-GSO | PCUBED team were lucky enough to be at Silverstone to witness the trials. Dynamic testing on the Saturday was a breeze and the endurance race main event on the Sunday saw the Hertfordshire team walk away with the ‘Best Fuel Economy’ trophy, a hard task in a sport that demands speed!
The team did great in the face of tough competition from teams around the world and were full of praise for MI-GSO|PCUBED’s support on this project. Students commented that the guidance they’ve received has been invaluable at every stage. Naturally, we were delighted to hear that some of them are now considering careers in management consulting after seeing MI-GSO| PCUBED’s expertise in action.
It’s been a decade since MI-GSO | PCUBED started working with the University of Hertfordshire team and every year we are blown away with the levels of capability, technical complexity and professionalism on display from these talented young engineers. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for them!
